Why I decided to idle my personal Facebook page

Today, I decided to idle my personal Facebook page. It’s a decision I’ve been threatening for months, but thankfully Facebook made the decision for me. Yesterday morning I received a notification from “Facebook corporate?” stating that a comment I made on a live-streaming of the Louisville, KY protests last night violated their speech standards and because of two previous infractions(both in mid-June), I was now banned from posting or commenting for 24 hours. My comment on the livestream said: “I believe citizens should take up arms against the police.” I still believe that and stand by it 100%. USAmerican police have become our modern day storm troops- fascist thugs snuffing out people of color with total support from every level and both branches of government. They burst through citizen’s doors without warrants and kill with impunity. I believe the Founding Fathers would agree that when a government becomes this tyrannical, it is time to do our best to destroy it.
My previous two speech violations occurred in mid-June:
  1. “Because Americans are selfish morons.”
  2. “Yeah, because everyone knows Americans are selfish stupid assholes.”
For context, these were comments posted on stories highlighting conservative’s anti-mask and anti-science stances. The reality of 200,000 deaths in the US clearly supports my position.

As a friend once said: “I’m an artist, not a politician. I don’t have to be nice.”

Facebook, in general, and Mark Zuckerberg specifically, really has some nerve. Not only have they been profiting from my data(and yours) for years, but they have also enjoyed money I’ve spent on ads. Facebook sows discord in societies by promoting political tribalism for profit. Facebook was directly responsible for genocide in Myanmar in 2018. I think their response was something like “ooops, our bad!”

Unfortunately, due to financial restraints and the size of my business, I have no choice but to continue using my business page as a means of procuring new supporters and directing eyes toward my website. However, I will no longer be active on my personal Facebook page beyond posting links redirecting traffic to my website. My website will be my home base for all things art and my life- my space to say and post what I wish without fear of censorship. With your help, I look forward to the day when I have achieved the level of reach that will allow me to deactivate both my personal and business Facebook accounts permanently. Thank you for your continued support and please enjoy my art.
