BIOGRAPHY
Will was born in central Louisiana of Irish, Cajun, and Choctaw ancestry. Naturally compelled to create art from an early age, Will was fortunate to have loving parents who encouraged and nurtured his talent. Despite growing up in a rural area dominated by primarily industrial interests, Will persisted with his dream of one day becoming an artist all throughout his public education years. Through hard work and focus he earned a full scholarship to college and pursued a degree in Fine Art with studies extensively focused on drawing, design, painting, and printmaking. Will graduated cum laude from Louisiana Tech University in 2000.
After graduation, Will and his husband Chip Ware moved several times within Louisiana before finally settling in New Orleans. Seven months later Hurricane Katrina struck and uprooted their lives as it did for so many others. During this time their friends from Houston reached out in support and urged them to relocate to the city permanently. Moving to Houston proved to be a great decision. Avenues for exposure of Will's art opened up and the momentum has been building ever since.
Will immediately became involved in the community. In only six months after moving to Houston, Will organized an art show/silent auction fundraiser that raised more than $3,000.00 benefitting Camp Hope(AIDS Foundation Houston). Will remains active in the community by donating work for various non-profits and developing art experiments designed to increase awareness of local charitable organizations.
As an artist, Will understands the importance of the creative spirit and it's role in overcoming cultural stagnation. Will strives to live his entire life as an adventure while nurturing his eccentricities, respecting them as having sprung from the same source as his artistic talent. Creating art has also served as a healing therapy against a lifelong struggle against depressive tendencies. It is also for this reason that all of his work is composed of bright radiant colors. Will's work mirrors his recent epiphany that his depressive tendencies only creep up when he forgets his special and important place in the Greater Whole.
Will has been inspired and influenced by various diverse sources such as European electronic music, the work of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and the wisdom of Lao Tzu's “Tao Te Ching.” Some artists who have influenced Will's artist direction over the years include Henri Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, Mark Rothko, Keith Haring, Georgia O'Keefe, Isamu Noguchi, Eduardo Chillida, Ellsworth Kelly, Auguste Garufi, Jaq Chartier, Troy Gua, Goncalo Ivo, and designer Mark Farrow. Will has been developing his signature style for over a decade. He composes clean crisp designs with bright vivid colors much like a musician composes a catchy tune with notes. For Will, art has been a lifelong addiction and passion and his compositions are his gifts to the world.
